A Modern Haberdashery

An old school haberdashery would outfit men for all occasions, and now Haberdash of Chicago is outfitting the modern man for all occasions. I recently had the opportunity to visit Haberdash in River North (the other outpost is on Wells in Old Town) to hear about their own aesthetic and what makes the shop great. The store manager, Noah Zagor, explained that fashion is given to us every season, but style is something that is made by us everyday; men tend to confuse the two and never really understand that style is a personal expression, not an offshoot from the runway. The feel of the boutique is rugged but comfortable, and the clothes match that feel. The style icons of the shop include Robert Redford and Steve McQueen and many others who had the effortless way of dressing in chinos and a sweater but still looked cool and sophisticated. The store carries a wide variety of designers, and is now starting to collaborate with some of those designers to create their own merchandise, which will be available in both stores. Silk ties, scarves, and bowties, which are readily available to buy in the store now, were their first venture in designing menswear, and will hopefully not be their last. One of the shop's favorite brands is Gitman Bros. Vintage, which is a menswear company dating back to 1978. Gitman is doing something interesting by looking back into their old design books and then creating new interpretations of their vintage shirts. The classic American style and quality of Gitman Bros. is what sets Haberdash apart from other stores, because the customer will walk away with quality, along with style. Wolverine is another brand found in the shop; the footwear manufacture is based out of Grand Rapids, Michigan and was founded over 125 years ago, and creates some of the most durable and luxe boots available. The boots are made of Horween leather (made in Chicago), Vibram soles, and Goodyear welt construction.  The brands signature boot is the 1000 Mile Boot, which is based on the original Wolverine boot and is said to last for 1000 miles. Another one of Haberdash's specialties is denim; their array of denim is endless, but no one will have a problem finding the perfect dark-straight legged jean that will make any man easily look like Redford or McQueen. The store is a mecca for mens clothes that are worth the price and will be cool and comfortable for years to come, because they are a classic style for a classic man.
