Now that Winter has officially made it's mark here in Chicago, I'm a happy as ever. Give me a snowstorm over a heatwave any day of the week. I just don't like sweating. But in all seriousness, Winter is my favorite season. Cold weather allows for better clothes (for men, at least), the possibility of work and/or school being cancelled for inclement weather, and it means the end of a year, meaning we can start over if so desired. Plus it's a season of gift giving... and receiving. Anyways, I came across this Swiss destination when I was got the travel bug one day this week. It seems to be perfect for myself, and maybe a tag-along if they deserve it. In Les Giettes, Swiss Alps, Switzerland there is a little makeshift campsite that is for the people (me) who likes to think they're camping, but are also staying in actual living accommodations, with a toilet. I love the look of this comfy and warm bed, looking out on to the snow covered Alps. It just seems Romantic... notice the capital R.

Luxe on the Mykonos Islands
While racking up my airline miles this summer in Europe, I left a little piece of myself in Greece. It is one of the most beautiful countries I have ever been to. It blew Italy out of the water for me, period. The people, the food, the scenery, everything about the country was wonderful. So while I'm adjusting to the cold weather that has moved in Chicago, I am imagining being back in Greece for a little rest and relaxation. This typical white house on the island of Mykonos is traditional from the outside, but has a serious kick of style inside. The modern decor compliments the more traditional tile flooring throughout, while the carried-through white walls makes the space into a clean and traditional place to enjoy the gorgeous ocean views. The extremely neutral styling throughout the home is ideal for a vacation home. After looking at this, I'm thinking a return trip is in order.

Travel Plans?
Let's talk travel. This Fall season has been a little overwhelming, and I'm in need of a little vacation. I won't have the good fortune to head off to anywhere luxe, so I'll just take a look at Louis Vuitton's Pre-Fall ad campaign. The Vuitton girl(s) are obviously jetting off to somewhere remote, cold, and chic. The classic Vuitton bags and luggage complete any travel accommodations, making the owner feel great, and anyone around them a little envious. And I also appreciate the Sofia Coppola bags make a cameo in these ladies travel plan. Anyway, this ad campaign really speaks to me, being that the girls are heading off to a chilly destination, and everyone knows I love a cold place... it's a little refreshing to see a travelwear company advertise their products going to cooler climates and not the beach. I think a long weekend is in order.

Ideal Travel Wear
Since I am now a pretty experienced traveler, I have an idea of what's ideal luggage situation I want for the next time I travel for an extended period of time. I have been in Europe for five weeks now, and I still have two more to go. I obviously packed quite a lot, and have acquired more stuff than I came with. I don't own a trunk now, but I most definitely suggest one for the traveling for long spurts of time. Also, a different variation for travel with for short trips in my big trip is a essential as well. I can't say I would do my bathroom essentials differently. Traveling can be stressful, so why stress over what you bring with?
After seeing Annabel Tollman endorse the Globe Trotter trunks (pictured above and below), I understand the utility behind them, as well as the chicness. A large trunk is perfect for long excursions, because you can fit a vast amount of personal belongings, and they are protected. I would most likely get two, one smaller than the other, so I have a little bit more space for new finds.
Globe Trotter's quality trunks will last a life time, because of their reinforced edges and hardshell perimeter.
If you travel for a long period of time, you will most likely travel lightly in that period, but you don't necessarily want to bring a huge trunk along for the weekend getaway. I suggest a weekend bag, and I swoon over this Vuitton weekend bag. Louis Vuitton is known for their quality travel wear, and will last throughout time.
Every man needs a dopp kit when he travels away from the comfort of his own bathroom. I prefer this Vuitton leather version, because leather is easily cleaned when something inevitably spills in flight. Thankfully men don't need a separate bag for their hygiene essentials, so a medium sized kit should be perfect for however long one travels.
If you're anything like me, you wear a watch everyday. It's the first thing I put on after a shower, and the last thing I take off at night. I prefer to travel with a small variety of watches, because it's nice to change it up a little bit at night. Another Vuitton option is the cylinder case for three watches. It's small enough to fit into that weekend bag, without a problem, but it holds enough to last for a couple of weeks.

Travel with Jack Spade
While in the Jack Spade store on Oak Street the other day, I came across this duffle bag that immediately caught my attention. I have been literally searching for the perfect duffle bag for over five years now, I'm not exaggerating. However, after seeing this duffle bag, I think my search is over, well almost, if it weren't for the price. The bag is made of Soft Waxwear, much like a high-grade cotton, which is then soaked in paraffin oils to make the bag that much stronger. And of course the bag is topped off with gorgeous leather trim and custom hardware. The two things that I liked most about the bag is that it has two buttons on each side to condense bag's width, which can obviously be reversed to let you stuff more into it. Also, David, who worked at the store told me a trick about Waxwear, he suggested every time is gets scratched (which isn't always a bad thing), you can hold a blowdryer to the scratch and the oil will reset itself, making it as good as new; I think that feature is phenomenal, especially if you were to use this bag regularly. The bag comes is three colors, a tan, a brown and a navy. I handled the brown in the store, and would say that it is the most practical. I'm sure I'll be revisiting the bag in the store frequently, waiting for it to go on sale.

Luxe Villa Cora
Renovating anything in Europe scares me to no end, but when I look at the Grand Hotel Villa Cora in Florence in Italy, I regain confidence in historical structures infused with modern day construction. The conservation/renovation of the multi-structure hotel spanned for over three years and focused on preserving as much of the original craftsmanship as possible. The beautiful details throughout the hotel are nice, but the new features including a new spa, gym, swimming pool, and two restaurants provide the guests with the feel of old-world surroundings with luxe-resort amenities. I don't know if I'll make it to Florence when I'm in Europe this summer, but if I do, I definitely want to stop at the Villa Cora.

Standard Luxe Goes on Vacation
Spending a winter in Chicago can make anyone crave a vacation, and January seems to be the breaking point for most; thankfully my stepbrother decided to get married in Puerto Morales, Mexico in the middle of month! A group of over 90 people gathered at the Ceiba del Mar resort for some much needed relaxation south of the boarder. Ceiba del Mar, located in Puerto Morales (right outside of Playa del Carmen), was beautiful and ideal for a beach wedding. The resort was a super luxe compound consisting of 8 different buildings filled with luxurious hotel rooms, two restaurants, a spa, and two pools which looked onto the ocean. The entire resort had a Spanish hacienda feel, and was filled with Mexican art. The location could not have been more luxe, and definitely made a special day for my stepbrother Dan and his new wife Lindsay. More pictures of the festivities to come!
