Luxe in Milan

In preparations for my travels to Rome in May, I thought I would look into the gorgeous villa that was featured in the italian film, I am Love, with Tilda Swinton, I saw earlier this Fall. Villa Necchi was constructed in 1932 in the city of Milan. The villa is the home to a collection of 18th-century decorative art, and a group of paintings and sculpture from the 1920s through the 1940s.

The marble faced villa with a swimming pool located in the front year is walled and gated, in the middle of the city of Milan, in in central Milan’s via Mozart. The landscaping was worked over before its opening to the public in 2008.

The front door of the home is located under a structured awning with shelters the copper plated front doors, which lead into a vestibule, before the actual foyer. The steps leading to the door are clad in a contrasting marble, compared to the rest of the house, and is cut in a half-circular pattern, creating a welcoming effect.

A dark wood paneling covers the entire foyer, which had a minimalist decor of just the marble-stepped staircase and semi-religious sculpture in the nook of the stair. My favorite part of the foyer is the runner going up the steps, the yellow color is a burst of life in a somewhat dark entry. Another interesting feature of the stair is the carved-wood banister that stretches all the up the stairs, and around the walkway in the hallway, it walks a fine line between chic and dated.

The dining has a brick painted motif on the walls, which are adorned with Italian tapestries. The crystal chandelier is original to the house and the centerpiece to the entire room. The marble buffet, mounted on the wall opposite the windows is covered with ceramic pottery and fresh flowers.

One of the sitting rooms in the villa is filled with art on the walls, as well as sculptures on the patterned floor. The marble floors has a green marble inlay, creating a sense of interest in the small space. Large windows look out into one of the many gardens on the property. The sunroom holds the only door, which is incased in metal, to the library which is also filled with art.

The high-gloss wood-paneled office is so luxurious, but minimal that it is the perfect backdrop to the many pieces of art that is hanging on the walls, along with the classical Roman and asian cultures placed throughout the room. The greenish curtains add a sense of life to the room, because of the off-color which is not seen anywhere else in the room.

The barrel-vaulted ceiling of the long corridor, which has all of the bedrooms off it, has a single and simple chandelier and is opposite a parquet hardwood floors.

The pink-hued marble encased bathroom is a perfect example of luxury, because of it's clean lines, but rich and natural pattern of the stone. The beautiful window looking out onto the lawn of the villa adds great natural light to the space, which still maintaining privacy with tree-coverage.
