Phillip Gorrivan

The Upper East Side of Manhattan is home to so many great apartments, new and old, and you will a lot of times find an old apartment that has been converted to look brand new. Interior designer Philip Gorrivan and his wife, Lisa, share their Carnegie Hill apartment with their children, Charlie and Isabelle and found their perfect apartment(s), and made it into their own. No expense was spared when renovating and combining two apartments, one being a two bedroom, and the other being a one bedroom, into a family friendly three bedroom. You can watch Mr. Gorrivan giving a personal tour of his apartment on ElleDecor.com. Be sure to notice Mr. Gorrivan's impressive art collection; a mix of photography, drawings, and paintings cover the walls, leaving me envious.

The main living room maximizes its space by being filled with custom furniture that fits the space perfectly, while the accents of the room are books and small treasures that have been gathered throughout a long career.

Again, the main living room is layered with different spaces and nooks to display items of interest. The custom built-in shelves cover two of the four walls in the room and display not only books, but art and family photos. The white walls are offset by the colorful blue window treatments that flank all the windows on the wall.

The welcoming and cozy foyer is intended to portray a jewel box, with black lacquered walls, and shinny marble floors. The space is in an octagonal shape, which makes the feeling a tight space, but the reflective walls give the space an open feel.

The custom banquet is situated in one of the corners of the living room, and has a backdrop of many small pieces of art, all framed with gold frames, but none matching. The banquet gives the space a less formal feel, especially with the collection of mismatched chairs, but the striped pattern makes the space feel ultra luxurious.

The separate family room is the smallest room in the house, but packs the most color with red carpet and the abstract artwork above the couch. The ceiling is coffered with custom inserts, while each coffer has a chrome light suspended down. The walls are upholstered in Mr. Gorrivan's fabric with Highland Court, and gives a Ralph Lauren touch to the room.

The master bedroom is done with very subdued colors, while still maintaining pops of color in the collection of blue ceramics on the dresser, which also has a graphic vertical piece above it.
