From Redd to Red, Nick Olsen

Being around talent is cause for talent itself, and this strange little concept is easily exhibited with Nick Olsen. The former protege of Miles Redd, Mr. Olsen worked over a tiny apartment in Manhattan, making it a lively home with surprises from the floor to the ceiling... I'm not exaggerating; the floor has a hand-painted geometric pattern that was done over a long weekend and when your not gazing at the funky floor, your eye will be drawn up the lacquered red walls to find a matching red lacquered ceiling. So the apartment itself is bursting with personality, but the things that fill the space are even more interesting. Color is most definitely not lacking in this little dwelling, from the walls to the furniture, the living room is filled with a black floral-printed sofa and a green upholstered french armchair to compliment to vintage find when Mr. Olsen was only 14! Of course I am in awe of Mr. Olsen's collection of books that are scattered throughout the living the room, making it feel comfortable and calm. The bedroom pleasantly contradicts the living room with the airy white and green striped upholstered walls, reminiscent of a greenhouse. And the floral-printed top cover over the crisp white linens reaffirms the subtle garden-like feeling. All in all, I must applaud Mr. Olsen for packing as much style and taste into such a small space and doing so in such a non-conformist way.
