Holiday Joy at Bergdorf Goodman

 

While publishing my annual Christmas Wish List this year (contact me if you'd like a copy), I got the feeling. The feeling of holiday joy, and what better way of turning that joy into something totally chic than looking at the windows at Bergdorf Goodman in New York City. The luxe department store has the reputation of doing up some pretty fancy windows not only during the holidays, but all year around. So if you're in the city sometime, I highly suggest you stop by the windows at 5th and 58th. And you can actually go in to shop a little too... like things from my Christmas Wish List. Seriously, I'll fax it to you.

Luxe Trend Watch

So this more of just a stream of consciousness. I've noticed on two separate occasions that solid gold ensembles have recently showed up on my radar. The one I noticed first was Blair from Gossip Girl wearing a Balmain Gold Breasted Double Jacket on an episode from last week. And now I just came across a picture of Bergdorf Goodman's Vice President of Visual Merchandising in a solid gold pant-suit (couldn't find the designer). And I know I've seen one other picture of something solid Gold like these, but I also can't find it. Either way, I suppose this will be a hot trend coming up since it's starting to be pop up slowly but surly. 

Winter At Bergdorfs

The holiday windows at Bergforf Goodman are a New York institution, much like thin crust pizza, and The Yankees. The five windows on Fifth Avenue become more elaborate each year and this year Bergdorfs produced a video documenting the making of each window. David Hoey, Bergdorf Goodman's Senior Director of Visual Presentation and Window Design notes that the job is much like an architect and like a cake decorator. The windows display an array of "wild mash-ups of unexpected arrivals and departures" ranging from classic mythology to science fiction. Each window is more beautiful than the next and is a definite must-see if visiting New York.
