Looking cool, and staying cool in the summer are two challenges for men, which do not compliment each other, in fact they're downright contradictory. Dressing like you know what you're doing in the stifling heat is tough for a lot of guys, but a look the majority of men can pull off is the ultimate preppy uniform, shorts with a blazer. The look is reminiscent of a WASPy dinner at the yacht club in Nantucket with Muffy and Chuck, but pairing a short (that comes above your knee) with a light-weight unstructured blazer will decrease sweat stains, and increase hoots and hollars from the ladies. I was initially opposed to the look, thinking the two key items were too juxtaposed, but after considering the practicality of such an outfit, and seeing what's available to carry out the look, for example the linen Ovadia and Sons shorts, or the LBM deconstructed blazers, I hopped on board. A few rules I think are important to follow when wearing this look, is to keep the buttons on the blazer light, white is the way to go, it keeps the look more casual and summer appropriate, also the materials of both the shorts and the jacket should not be heavy, it will defeat the purpose of the entire look. I'll most likely be working a H&M blazer and navy shorts from Banana Republic at my sister's outdoor wedding reception this weekend.
