A Little City in the Country

Since I've been on a Dolly Parton kick lately, let's talk about country living. Not backwoods, wood cabin living, but French countryside farmhouses. Naturally. Take this farmhouse in Bourgogne, France designed by Joséphine Gintzburger. One word comes to mind when seeing the exterior of this centuries old structure, idyllic. But when you step inside, a lofty and open space captivates your sight. The white walls are brightened by the huge windows throughout the space, ultimately making the space even brighter. The natural (and my guess, original) wood beams on the ceilings give a sense of structure and balance to the room, not making the white and the light too overwhelming. Since the building itself is mildly transformed, the fixtures within, make the space reminiscent of a city loft. The wall of stainless steel cabinets bring a contemporary flair, while the wooden farmhouse table offsets the mod area. Then throughout the rest of the home are traditional materials, all offset by modern furniture and warm colors. I don't say this too often, but this country home could make a city person feel pretty comfortable.
