Shagreen in the Home

While perusing around Barney's New York on Oak Street a few weeks ago, I came across a gorgeous desk set made out of an unusual skin, the bumpy yet symmetrical feel made me ask what the desk was covered in, and much to my surprise, it was actually Stingray skin, known as Shagreen. The furniture sets are absolutely beautiful. The contemporary design adorned with the exotic coverings are designed by the husband and wife team of Ria and Yiouri Augousti. The design/married duo both came from design backgrounds, and dreamed of having their own line of furniture, thus resulting in R&Y Augousti. The beautiful furniture is truly luxe, taking center stage in any room it graces. The Shagreen comes in a few different colors (seen below), and I happen to love the golden brown skin, named Mink. Each piece is truly unique, because no one skin shares the same pattern, and the Shagreen is applied in multiple panels which gives the piece a dimension that would be lacking if it was one sheet. The detail on each piece is absolutely extraordinary, and can be seen in the companies flagship shop in Paris.
