Alexander McQueen, Savage Beauty

The Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute Gala is a New York Institution, that I would easily give my right arm to attend. The ball which is put on by a number of people, including Anna Wintour of American Vogue, François-Henri Pinault of PPR, and Samantha Cameron of Council of British Fashion Designers (and formerly of Smythson) named this year's event to have the well-deserved theme of Alexander McQueen, Savage Beauty. The exhibition will feature a number of archived pieces by the late McQueen, mostly being curated by Sarah Burton, the late Mr. McQueen's friend, and now creative director. Now this news got my pretty excited a few months ago, but the recent news of Daphne Guinness (pictured above) collaborating with Barney's New York on Barney's iconic window displays is almost mind-blowing. Details are lacking right now, but it is assumed that Ms. Guinness will dress the windows in the late stylist's Isabella Blow's couture collection that Ms. Guinness bought in its entirety after Ms. Blow's untimely death. Now not only will the Manhattanites get to see one of the best personal wardrobes ever, they will also get to witness Ms. Guinness dress for the Met Gala in a window of Barney's, much like performance art. I cannot wait to hear more details when they come out, but one thing that is certain is that Ms. Guinness will be wearing Alexander McQueen to the Gala. The Met Gala has always been a hot ticket, but this year will be more exclusive than ever before. Below are some of the most iconic pieces from McQueen's collections over time.
