From Mom to Mod

It's easy to leave home and unconsciously recreate it somewhere else, just without your parents. Matt Berman did the exact thing, only with a couple of years in Paris in between. Upon living abroad in Europe, Mr. Berman returned to America, to his cool NoHo loft and initially made it into a replica of his childhood home, but soon realized (with a little help from his own mother) that he needed to put his own spin on his grown up apartment, and changed he did. Mr. Berman completely took the apartment down to its barebones, and started from scratch. The transformation turned out to be an eclectic space for different pieces, from different times. The white walls set the stage for big bursts of color found throughout the loft. Each room has so much visual interest, but is not overwhelming because of the white backdrop. I especially like the graphic detailing on the bed linens, it almost makes the picture look like it was edited on the computer. Living in a space that is inspired by an earlier time, and not a recreation of an earlier time, is something that everyone should consider every once in a while.
