Take a Break in Sutton Place

We're approaching the end of NYFW, and to be perfectly frank, I'm a little tired of looking at the runway. So lets take a little look into some interiors today. The art-filled New York City apartment located in the swanky Sutton Hill neighborhood is colorfully neutral with art filling most of the walls, and mismatched furniture that look as though they were designed together. This eclectic space seems to be the home of travelers that love to surround themselves with reminders of their treks around the world. The dining room is my favorite part of the apartment, because of the industrial style bookcase and table with beautifully ornate chairs; the room is the perfect meeting point of polished and worn. This whole apartment is exactly what I look for in home.

Preservation at Sea

A yacht is to a Greek shipping tycoon as a jumbo jet is to a Saudi prince, and the Northwind II, circa the 1960s has been pleasantly preserved to its original splendor, and all within the same family. The boat belongs to a Greek family in the shipping business and has been in the family since the sixties, however in 2005, the yacht suffered major damage from a storm in its home port of Piraeus in Athens. The boat was completely overhauled and updated to modern standards and conveniences. My absolute favorite part of the restoration was that no expense was spared when outfitting the ship with technological and communication devices, and all those gadgets require an array of obnoxious satellite dishes and other antennas on the top deck, however the family decided to hide all those behind a sheet of fiberglass that is streamlined with the rest of the ship, creating a clean and uninterrupted facade. Also, the interior was restored to its initial decor, even down to digitally scanning the original fabrics to be recreated and upholstered throughout the cabins. It's very refreshing to see a huge yacht that has as much style as the time it came from, no shinny modern cabins and exotic skins covering the sofas, this boat is as beautiful and as retro as they come. Ahoy!

Happy Fourth of July!

Who's more American than Ralph Lauren? The iconic designer of all things luxe-American has homes all around the world, but his homage to American history in his Colorado estate, dubbed Double RL Ranch in Colorado is the perfect getaway in the Rocky Mountains for ideal American flair. Mr. Lauren outfitted his massive cattle ranch in native american and authentic wild west details, even down to an a working teepee in the yard. My favorite part of the whole estate is the outdoor rock-outlined pool that looks out onto the beautiful mountain scenery in the distance. I pretty much love anything Ralph Lauren, and this home is no exception.
