Warm Weather Leather

You know when something is aged just right? Good, because I don't - I'm a fresh-faced twenty-one year old that gets distracted by all things new and shiny. However, when I take breaks from starring at mirrors and disco balls, I have noticed the beauty in aged buttery leather. I'm not entirely positive 'buttery leather' is the correct terminology for what I'm featuring today, but just go with it. These lightly colored pieces of leather furniture have been making me sigh whenever I see them, and The Sartorialist's, Scott Schuman's recent self-portrait (see last picture) got my motor going. I finally went on a rampage of all things buttery and chic. The pictures below, including the one of the smelly shoe, really make me ooze with desire. It could just be the weather, but I am just drawn to the lightly colored supple and succulent leather of these chairs and couches. The warm air and the light color just seem to go together perfectly. Before I start relating black velvet sofas to winter time (but I'm totally right though), I'll let you go, but only after appreciating all that these light and airy approaches to leather furniture have to offer.

Wonders of Walnut

 

After nearly falling off my desk chair when I saw the headboard above, I knew I found gold. It's actually walnut, not gold. But this headboard elicits everything cool. It's varying shades of light to dark tones, solid built, low profile, and a naturally edgy top. It's perfect. I came across this little gem on Hedgehouse's Etsy shop, and found all sorts of different pieces of furniture that are all solid walnut. Someone has a new favorite wood (me). I find the tones in walnut to be very soothing, and not very dramatic, but still stylish. The solid nature of these pieces really make them substantial, in style and heft. Walnut is seen a lot in Scandinavian design, along with Mid-century modern designs. And in my compulsive nature, I found another furniture designer who does wonders with walnut. James Murphy Design works out of his workshop in New York, and is inspired by the lines of boat building and aviation design. Interesting, right? Plus, he sources all of his wood from local trees, making an effort to stay locally sustainable. But after all that, I'm still drawn to the headboard above, it just speaks to me.

Not too Salty

One is most likely sitting down when eating, so why not sit down in something that is inspired by what you're eating? The pretzel chair is a unique piece designed by Norman Cherner in the twentieth century and is now a rare find. The curvy yet sturdy design of the chair is pretty spectacular in its simplicity and style. It would be a great addition to any room; I wouldn't suggest it as a dining chair considering the rather wide portions, but a pair flanking a table, or a single chair in a bedroom would be a perfect place to sit down and enjoy a handful of pretzels in your pretzel chair.
